Description
Driving Directions: Boulder County near Boulder Reservoir entrance gate. Travel north on 51st from Jay Rd., turn left (west) on Valhalla Dr., 3rd house on left on the corner of Valhalla and Thor.

Products Offered: Raw goat milk for now (probably will work into yoghurt, kefir and some cheeses as I get rolling.

Farm Description: We live on one acre in Boulder County. The dairy herd consists of 5 does currently; 2 Nubians, 2 Saaens and 1 La Mancha. We have about 20 laying chickens and some years we raise chickens for meat. There is also a vegetable garden for our use.

Farm Management Philosophy:
I have a deep respect for the goats as hard workers contributing high quality milk. I keep them healthy and content by paying attention to them individually, giving them good clean feed, comfortable living conditions, including plenty of room to exercise, shelter and dry bedding, regular routine, fresh water, appropriate grooming and natural health care.

I use mostly herbal and Homeopathic medicines on the goats when needed. Only when necessary do I use antibiotic treatment. (Milk withdrawal is closely monitored in the case of antibiotic use.)

They eat unsprayed alfalfa and a dairy grain blend. I'm exploring natural and organic grain rations and hope to move to that within the next year. I will let them forage on our property and two adjoining properties. It remains to be seen how much of their feed will come from these sources. I plan to freshen the does in March and have them dried off during January and February.

Just East of Colorado Springs, Hi Plains Dairy sits on the highest non-forested plains in the nation. With a breath taking view of Pikes Peak and the southern mountain range, our goats enjoy an altitude that promotes healthier goats and produces more omega 3’s in their milk. Our herd of registered Alpines, Saanens, and Nubians enjoy 40 acres of organic pasture grasses, tested fresh well water, and 100% certified organic hay.

Our belief system is based on the European tradition of the farmstead. The quality of the milk is not only directly proportionate to the care, nutrition, and love of the animal that produces it, but the meticulous hygienic handling of the milk.

If you also would like to benefit from this belief system, in producing highest quality of natural raw milk come join us with a share in our venture.

Farm Management: When we heal the Earth, we heal ourselves. We respect and care for God’s creatures, & they care & provide for us. God is trusting in us to be good stewards to His land & His creatures, & to help others know the goodness He creates on our Ranch.
At BBR, we strongly believe in keeping it as natural & as close to God’s intentions as possible. All of our animals graze freely, have fresh air/sunshine & safe housing. We supplement feed/minerals to maintain optimum health year-round. Our breeding program allows us to produce some milk year-round. The girls take 2-3 months off to rest before kidding. Our health care philosophy is prevention first, holistic care when necessary & antibiotics/modern medicine when appropriate. The gift of these medicines is to use, not abuse. Withdrawal times from medicines are strictly adhered to in the rare occasion that they are used at all.
We adhere to RMAC guidelines for milk handling/testing & legalities. We plan to be certified humane 12/2008.

We recently moved to 80-acres 10 miles SE of Calhan, CO. where an intensive grazing program is used to replace topsoil/repair the land. Our partners: Icelandic Sheep, seasonal pigs, laying hens, meat broilers, Muscovy ducks & Guineas & 30 Oberhasli dairy goats.

Description
Nestled in the heart of the San Juan Mountains, the James Ranch Dairy is one of only a handful of dairies in the United States that is 100% grain free. We only feed lush, high altitude, cool season pasture during the green season (see "Pasture Perfect" by Jo Robinson for the benefits of 100% grass fed dairy). We feed only hay in the winter.

We milk seasonally (April-mid November). The cows get the winter off to grow a healthy calf. Equally as important, we get the winter off to get our sanity back. We built a New Zealand style milking barn which we keep exceptionally clean. Most of our milk goes to our raw milk artisan cheeses which can be purchased on farm or at the Durango and Telluride farmers' markets.

In addition to raw milk and cheeses, we have 100% grass fed beef, pasture raised, whey fed pork (Whey-Good Pork), lots of pasture eggs, native tree nursery, and a wide variety of organically raised vegetables. We offer tours during the sumer (call for the schedule).

We are 10 miles north of Durango. Across the highway and just north of Honeyville.

Our family is blessed to have a small dairy goat herd on 4 acres now consisting of purebred Nubians & Alpine/Nubian. The goats enjoy their days outside in one of our pasture areas and find shelter at night under the roof of our Blue Barn.

Our goats are given high quality alfalfa (and pasture during the summer), mineral supplements, baking soda and fresh water on a free choice basis. Molasses coated grain & black oil sunflower seeds are given to lactating goats.

We maintain proper milking/milk handling procedures to ensure healthy, good-tasting milk. Milk may not be available for 2-3 months in the winter/early spring during the "dry' season when the goats are preparing to have kids or are feeding their newborn kids.

If a goat needs medical treatment, natural options are always preferred but at our discretion conventional medicine may be used with caution. Milk from a goat undergoing treatment will not be distributed.

Eggs and goat milk products will be available. Please visit our website for updates and details.

Products offered: Raw goat milk shares

We have a small herd of pastured, free-range goats on 2 lush, full acres close to Table Mountain in Golden. We raise La Mancha, La Mancha/Sanaan goats.

We work closely with a local vet to treat our goats preventatively and keep them organic. Our goal is to keep 5 goats per acre and as a result we have very few problems with illness or disease. They are fed alfalfa hay and grain daily, with free-feed minerals and fresh water.

Our philosophy is to educate the public as to the nature of goat milking via 4-H program, small neighborhood tours as well as raw milk shares for the surrounding community. We attempt to milk year-round. All of our goats are CAE free as well as tested for TB and Brucellosis annually.

We use as little intervention as necessary. The goats are wormed during the year. We do not feed our animals soy or corn products. Goats eat Alfalfa hay and the does have access to pasture. Milking does receive a custom grain ration of barley, oats, black oil sunflower seeds, linseed meal and cane molasses. All goats have access to mineral blocks. The Creekside @ Tomichi Creek Ranch (headquarters to Parker Pastures) is approx 400 acres. Though primarily a beef ranch, we have diversified and added a small group of lovely Jerseys.

We manage our grass-based operation using Holistic Management. We strive to improve the ecological health of the land while providing delicious, local, sustainable foods for our community. We believe that nutrition is the root of healthy livestock and high quality forage in a low stress, natural environment is of the utmost importance in raising healthy animals and producing delicious, high quality, healthy milk..
Our girls are on pasture at all times (except during milking!) and are grazed semi-intensively and moved frequently onto fresh, lush timothy/clover pasture during the growing season. We feed Gunnison grown hay during the winter and early spring. We do not use antibiotics, hormones, pesticides, or synthetic fertilizers. Due to our climate, we are a seasonal dairy, meaning we do not milk the cows year round. We dry our cows up for 10-12 weeks during the early spring to allow them to prepare for calving in late May. Therefore, shareholders must be prepared for a planned, annual dry period during which no milk will be available.
